Health Insurance Coverage

All North Carolina State University students, including IEP students, are required to maintain health/medical insurance throughout their time at the university.

NC State students who are enrolled in classes through the IEP are now eligible for Student Blue from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, for a fee of $802 each semester ($1,604 per year). Students may waive enrollment in (choose not to use) Student Blue if they can prove you have health/medical insurance from another insurance provider. This insurance may be purchased abroad or in the United States, but it must meet the following coverage types and minimum amounts:

  • $50,000 minimum per accident or illness
  • $500 maximum deductible per policy year
  • Coinsurance of at least 80% for in-network services
  • $10,000 provision for medical evacuation
  • $7,500 maximum for repatriation

If a student wants to waive enrollment in Student Blue, they may want to consider these health/medical insurance providers (see bottom of page). The procedure for waiving Student Blue insurance will be further explained at IEP Orientation.

Please remember that students are required to either enroll in the Student Blue insurance plan through BCBS of North Carolina or waive out of the plan (by showing proof of other acceptable insurance) by September 10, 2014.
