Academic coaches provide one-on-one tutoring for IEP students, FREE of charge. Students schedule appointments online and meet in a private room at the IEP building.

Anita Allard Culler serves as an on campus Academic Coach for students of all levels and assists students with all their IEP classes. Her international experience includes ESL experiences as well as living overseas. For the past seven years, she has taught ESL to local immigrants and professionals and has a certificate in TESOL from NCSU. Last year she began also using those skills to help newly arrived refugees in the Raleigh area. She has also taught ESL to graduate students and visiting scholars. As a child, she spent eight years in Brazil and grew up bilingual in Portuguese and English. She has dual citizenship.
Anita has always enjoyed encouraging and helping others throughout various volunteer and professional endeavors. At the IEP, she enjoys helping students improve their communication through writing and speaking. Students seek her help with improving grammar, learning vocabulary, improving speaking, and perfecting writing skills.
Before beginning her ESL career, her professional experience included a successful career as a healthcare professional in the field of Radiography where she was a multi-skilled technologist, manager and instructor. She was on the Radiologic Science Faculty for seven years at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has taught classes and webinars on cultural competency and has advocated for international students and patients throughout her career. She looks forward to using her varied knowledge, skills, and abilities to help IEP students and the program continue to be successful in the future.
