Intensive English Program

IEP student workers are NC State students who work for the IEP as student mentors and/or receptionists. They are an excellent resource to all things NC State! Student Mentors attend activities with IEP students.  They also assist with the American Life and University Culture (ALUC) class.

Emily Murr

Emily Murr

Lead Student Mentor
Emily was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is in the Civil Engineering Department at NC State and is currently involved in the Cooperative Education Program with NCSU and Brasfield & Gorrie, General Contractors. She currently works in the Medical Department at Brasfield & Gorrie, but hopes to work on bridge design and construction when she graduates. She has been with IEP since January 2015.
Hesaum Dehghan

Hesaum Dehghan grew up in Tehran, Iran and moved to the U.S about 4 years ago. He is currently studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business at NC State University. He has plans to go to Law school and his goal is to become a lawyer for oil companies. He is a former IEP student and graduated 2 years ago from IEP. He started to work in IEP as a sophomore and he is serving as a receptionist. In his free time, he enjoys working out and cooking.
Katherine Waller

Katherine Waller

Katherine is a Raleigh native and a lifelong Wolfpack fan. She is a senior majoring in English Education and plans on teaching high school when she graduates. During her time at NC State, Katherine has been involved on campus as a member of the University Scholars Program and had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. Katherine’s passion for education has caused her to get involved in educational psychology research and become a member the SMART Collaborative, a research team based out of the William Friday Institute on Centennial Campus. In her free time, Katherine enjoys reading, spending time with friends, travelling, working as a staff writer for the NC State’s student newspaper, The Technician, and volunteering with local fourth graders to help develop their reporting and writing skills. She has been with IEP since May 2016.

Lucas Wylie and is a sophomore at NC State majoring in Chemical Engineering. In his free time he enjoys hanging out with friends and listening to music. He hope to co-op this coming year in England and is excited to work with IEP right now!
Kelly Newman

Kelly is a senior in industrial and systems engineering. She enjoys getting to know students in order to help them integrate more easily into American Culture. After living in the Raleigh area for over 20 years, she loves doing adventures in an around North Carolina. Kelly is also involved with several things on campus including Omega Phi Alpha (service sorority), Scholars Council, and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.
Maddie White

Maddie was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She is a senior in Chemical Engineering with a Biomolecular Concentration. She is also minoring in Biology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology. Maddie is a student with the Cooperative Education Program through working at Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies. When she is not studying she loves to spend time cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes, hanging with friends, and swimming. Maddie hopes to either work for a biopharmaceutical company or attend medical school after graduation.

I was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. I currently study Mechanical Engineering and have plans to get involved with the Cooperative Education Program beginning in the summer of 2017. I enjoy being involved in intramural sports on campus and I love meeting new people!
Siyu Sunny Duan

Siyu (Sunny) Duan

Sunny grew up in Kunming, China and came to the NC State about three years ago. She is a former IEP student and graduated about 2 years ago. She is currently studying applied mathematics and statistics at NC State. She hopes to work in consulting firms to be a financial consultant. She has been working with the IEP as a receptionist since January 2016 and is happy to be back to the IEP family. In her free time, she gets involved in various on-campus activities, and enjoys talking to people from different cultures and writing Chinese Calligraphy.
Yun Seo Jang

Yun Seo Jang

Receptionist
Yun is an International Student from South Korea and this is her third year in America. She is junior double majoring in International Studies and Business, minoring in Chinese. Since her freshman year, Yun has been really involved on Campus as a member of Hamilton Scholar Program, a Vice president of Asian Student Association and a sister of Alpha Phi Gamma. Her biggest passion is traveling and she has been traveled to 12 different countries so far. Yun understands the cultural difference and difficulties as an International student in the U.S. so she is more than happy to work with IEP students and always willing to help them out.
