For those students who are interested in attending NC State as undergraduate degree seeking students but do not meet the English language proficiency requirements, conditional admission may be the perfect option.
Students who are academically competitive and have at least a TOEFL 60 or IELTS 6.0 may receive an offer of conditional admission to NC State through its Intensive English Program (IEP). After successfully completing the IEP, students will be able to enter their academic program of study without taking an additional TOEFL or IELTS.
To be considered for conditional admission, students should apply to NC State directly as undergraduate students. Note that students do NOT apply for conditional admission itself.
The IEP prepares conditionally-admitted students for the challenges of attending NC State. Students strengthen the academic language skills needed for success as well as learn more about American culture and university expectations. IEP staff and instructors support students every step of the way and are available for academic advising and extra help. Questions? Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
